Frequently asked questions

1. What is Redupax?

Redupax is a premium acoustical floor underlayment that has been designed for use under Floated laminate & engineered hardwood flooring to reduce sound transmission of foot step noise in condo's apartments, townhouses and homes.

2. Is Redupax acceptable Underlayment with Radiant Floor heat?

Redupax is an acceptable underlayment over radiant floor heat, it is made from FSC certified wood fiber and offers some R Value in maintaining heat in the floor.  A 6mil poly vapor barrier is required for use with radiant floor heat.

3. How does Redupax compare to other floor underlayments in the market?

Many years of research & development and testing went into Redupax which has been specifically designed and manufactured for use under Laminate & Engineered Hardwood Flooring. Unlike foams, felts & rubber based underlayments, Redupax offers self leveling up to 1/8" per 3 linear feet which will save time and money and also avoid potential installation problems if there are irregularities in the sub floor. Redupax is a wood fiber based product and is very stable which when walked simulates the feels of nail down hardwood flooring. Foams, felts & rubber based underlayments are thinner and less stable and tend to flex and bounce when walked upon.  Redupax is 3/8" thick and has achieved mid to luxury IIC rating for impact sound isolation.

4. I am going to install 3/4" nail down hardwood flooring can I install Redupax under it?

Solid hardwood is commonly nailed into the sub floor. In order to achieve an acoustical floor typically the floor needs to be floated over the sub floor. A floor build up of Redupax under 2 layers of 1/2" plywood with the solid hardwood flooring being nailed into the 2 layers of plywood would work. This method is very labor intensive. Sound Seal has already designed a underlayment for 3/4" nail down hardwood called Soundeater.  In many installation done, Soundeater has proven a labor saving of 30% over traditional acoustical floor build up for nail down flooring.

5. Will Redupax eliminate all the noise from my neighbor above?

Redupax is designed to reduce foot traffic or foot step noise in the floor/ ceiling assembly.  If the noise you are hearing is people talking, music or television this is a problem with airborne noise.  Airborne noise is commonly reduced with additional mass or weight.

6. How do I install Redupax?

7. Can I install Redupax underlayment over a concrete floor?

8. What happens if I spill water on my floor with Redupax underlayment under it?

9.Can I glue my floor to the Redupax underlayment?
